Close-In Surveillance Using Your Phone’s Wi-Fi

Close-In Surveillance Using Your Phone’s Wi-Fi:

But in a retail environment, other in-store equipment can pick up your WiFi card, learn your device’s unique ID number and use it to keep tabs on that device over time as you move through the store.

A good reminder from Bruce Schneier that surveillance comes from many directions. I normally keep my phone off wifi unless I’m deliberately using a network. This isn’t for security as much as a reflection that I have an unlimited data plan.
