DBAA: Community Subsistence Information System

Our next stop on the Alaska page of the State Agency Databases Across the Fifty States Project is:

Community Subsistence Information System – From the website: “The CSIS is the repository of Alaska community harvest information gathered by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Subsistence.

This database can answer questions like “How many Stellar Sea Lions were caught in Adak in 2008?” The database also provides community summaries that include population, number of subsistance users and type of animals hunted or plants gathered. Some of the information appears dated.

Next week we’ll check out a database where you can locate and read a number of publications on fishing and subsistence in Alaska.
