DBAA: Alaska Appellate Courts Case Management System

Today’s Alaska agency database from the Alaska page of State Agency Databases Across the Fifty States is:

  • Alaska Appellate Courts Case Management System – Database of appeals court materials searchable by the Appellate Case Number, the Last Name of a Party, or the Trial Court Number. The user may also browse a list of appellate cases. Database aids in the location of transcripts, oral arguments, briefs, etc.

A few things to keep in mind about this database:

  • You won’t find any full text records online. For instance, you can use this database to find out how many briefs have been filed in this case and how many pages each brief is, but you cannot read the briefs online.
  • Although these cases are mostly public records, the appeals courts won’t make copies for you. You’ll need to hire an outside service to copy for you. Unless you live within driving distance of Anchorage, then you can inspect the records in person.

To get a sense of what is available from this database, use Palin as a party name. This will bring up three cases where Sarah Palin is named as a party.

Next week we’ll look at a database of trial court records and I’ll show you my own trial court record.
