Friday Qur’an Quote: Prayer and Almsgiving

Although the Dove World Outreach Center called off its planned Qur’an book burning originally slated for September 11, 2010, I am sharing a quote from the Qur’an each Friday in September as others in this country continue to think burning another’s holy book ( or any other book for that matter) is ok.

As a librarian I refuse to support the burning of any book anywhere. As a Christian, I follow Jesus’ command in Matthew 7:12, “Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.” I don’t want my books burnt, so I will never burn or condone burning the books of others.

Today’s quote is from the chapter of the Qur’an called “The Prophets“:

[21.73] And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve;

If you have a blog, I encourage you in sharing verses from the Qur’an that you find positive. Together we can show the world that Dove World Outreach is not typical in their view of Christianity.

About the Koran

This is an electronic version of The Holy Qur’an, translated by M.H. Shakir and published by Tahrike Tarsile Qur’an, Inc., in 1983. The text was provided by the Online Book Initiative and subsequently marked up at the HTI in SGML. Like all the versions of this text derived from the Online Book Initiative, it is not free from errors and represents the text as published. We will strive to correct any transcription errors pointed out to us.

  1. I am very glad you are doing this. I hope others are reading your Friday blog as well.

  2. Thanks for the kind words. According to my stats, 16 people specifically read this week’s quote. Over on Facebook there are 94 people signed up to post quotes.

    The numbers don’t matter as much as the mere fact of witness that there are Westerners who demonstrate they are not hostile to Islam and that bookburning of any sort by anyone is unacceptable.
