Qur’an Friday: Alms in Secret

In opposition to the Dove World Outreach Center’s Qur’an book burning being done in the name of Christ on September 11, 2010, I am sharing a quote from the Qur’an each Friday in September. As a librarian I refuse to support the burning of any book anywhere. As a Christian, I follow Jesus’ command in Matthew 7:12, “Do to others whatever you would have them do to you. This is the law and the prophets.” I don’t want my books burnt, so I will never burn or condone burning the books of others.

Today’s quote is from the chapter of the Qur’an called “The Cow“:

[2.271] If you give alms openly, it is well, and if you hide it and give it to the poor, it is better for you; and this will do away with some of your evil deeds; and Allah is aware of what you do.

If you have a blog, I encourage you in sharing verses from the Qur’an that you find positive. Together we can show the world that Dove World Outreach is not typical in their view of Christianity.
