Why We Need a Health Care Plan

For the most part, Republicans in Congress have decided they don’t need to offer an alternative to either the current health care system or to the Democrats health care bill. Just type either [obama waterloo] or [health “go for the kill”] into Google if you don’t believe me.

In his weekly address on Saturday, August 8, 2009, President Obama explains why sticking with the way things are just won’t work:

In the end, the debate about health insurance reform boils down to a choice between two approaches. The first is almost guaranteed to double health costs over the next decade, make millions more Americans uninsured, leave those with insurance vulnerable to arbitrary denials of coverage, and bankrupt state and federal governments. That’s the status quo. That’s the health care system we have right now.

So, we can either continue this approach, or we can choose another one – one that will protect people against unfair insurance practices; provide quality, affordable insurance to every American; and bring down rising costs that are swamping families, businesses, and our budgets. That’s the health care system we can bring about with reform.

Now there may be a way to bring about a system that won’t deny coverage based on preexisting conditions and that will control costs that isn’t the current bill. But we won’t know until someone offers an alternative.

My plea to Congressional Republicans is lead, follow, or get out of the way. If you want to lead, show us your plan.
