On the heals of my blog post on Alaska voter turnout, I thought I should address the people looking for the Secretary of State’s office in Alaska. There isn’t one and hasn’t been one for decades. Typical Secretary of State functions in other states include running elections, registering corporations, registering notaries, and in some states, keeping State Archives. In Alaska, these are divided amount several departments:
- Elections – Lt. Governor’s Office
- Notary Registry - Lt. Governor’s Office
- Corporation Records – Department of Commerce, Community and Economic Development
- Alaska State Archives – Department of Education and Early Development
If you’re looking for the Alaska Secretary of State for some reason not listed above, let me know what topic you hoped to find in comments and I’ll update this entry with the proper department if I can find it.
