“Permission Slip” vs Outright Begging

Five years ago this month, President Bush thumped his chest repeatedly and said that he would never ask for a “permission slip” to invade another country with no documented operational links to those who attacked us in 2001. To this day he remains proud of this attitude.

Yet, he and his officials humiliate this nation time and time again by begging Saudi Arabia and other OPEC nations to increase oil production. President Bush obviously thinks we need OPEC’s leave to operate an effective economy. Otherwise why would he keep going back to them over and over? Especially when they repeatedly tell us they’re not interested in lower energy costs?

This is a great country full of resourceful people. We don’t have to be publicly begging OPEC to lower oil prices. We could be working on practical ideas eliminate petroleum’s hold over us. If we started spending $2 Billion week on attaining energy independence instead of on foreign occupation, we could eliminate the power base (oil money) of the radical Islamists. We’d also be empowering ourselves by taking back our economic destiny.

Or we can keep begging.
