WorldCat Powered Recommendation RSS

If you come to the blog to view my entries, you might have noticed a new feature in the right-hand column. It’s called “Good Reads/Views.” It’s generated from the RSS Feed of a list I’ve created on Open WorldCat called Books and More Worth a Look. Every time I add to this list over at WorldCat, a new item pops up on the “Good Reads/Views” list in the right hand column. If you visit my list at http://worldcat.org/profiles/dcornwall/lists/53712, you’ll see my annotations for each book. Clicking on a book title, whether here at the blog or on my WorldCat list will take you to the WorldCat record for the item. From here you can find out more about the item, including at least some libraries that hold it. If you don’t see a nearby library listed, try getting the item through Interlibrary Loan at your local public library.

My only problem with the service is that it appears annotations are limited to somewhere around 255 characters. I’d like more room. Actually, I’d like the ability to blog from WorldCat like I do in Flickr and YouTube, but this is a good start. Especially if they gave us more room for our annotations.

If you’re actually interesting in what I’m highlighting, open up your favorite RSS reader and subscribe to http://worldcat.org/profiles/dcornwall/lists/53712/rss. Or click on the RSS Feed on my list.

Are you or your library using this new feature? Let me know.
