Preserving Language – Dena’ina Qenaga Archive

I recently subscribed to the tag “Alaska” on del.icio.us. Most of the time, I just see tourist sites, but every once in awhile I get good stuff. Like this site dedicated to preserving and promoting one of Alaska’s Native languages:

Dena’ina Qenaga ArchiveĀ  (http://qenaga.org/archive/index.cfm)

From the website: “The Dena’ina Qenaga Archive provides digital access to more than five hundred documents and recordings relating to the Dena’ina language, including nearly everything written in or about Dena’ina language. You may browse or search the available records. Some of the records have associated digital audio and text files which can downloaded. In some cases, access restrictions prohibit web-based access to digital materials. However, digital copies may still be available directly from the Alaska Native Language Center.”

Records may be browsed or searched. One can search by speaker, dialect, description, title, content (text-tradition, phonology, placenames, etc. Looks like another good resource for exploring Alaska Native culture and history.
