An Iraq funding bill that yanks reconstruction aid if benchmarks aren’t being met.
I was going to vent for awhile on why I’m so utterly disgusted with the Democrats surrender to the President and what I think we should be doing instead, but I find that David Sirota and Rabbi Michael Lerner have already done a better job than I could ever think of doing. Especially since I’m still so angry about it.
The one thing I didn’t see in their blog entries was a note to the effect that ending the occupation is supported by a majority of Americans, Iraqi citizens and a majority of the Iraqi Parliament. What part of “respect the will of the people and your occupied subjects” don’t the Democrats understand?
There is another way. Pick one!

So you’re mad at the Democrats? What about the REPUBLICANS???? You’re not mad at them? They’re the ones that got us into this mess and they’re not jumping at any chances to get out Iraq. Maybe you should really, really be mad at them and yap that up more.
The Democratic Congress is in a position to end the occupation, just as Republicans ended our involvement in both Haiti and Somalia against the wishes of the President.
They were given a majority in Congress last November to act as a brake on the President. They’ve broken faith with the voters by writing yet another blank check.
If Republicans had stayed in control of Congress, I’d be nagging them about writing blank checks — but at least they give me no illusions they’ll stop.
