Alaska Podshow: Thanks Kelly Curtis!

Proving that not all comments on old posts are automatically spam, Kelly Curtis left me this May 2007 comment on an August 2006 post celebrating AK Radio:

Hey there!

I agree, I enjoy AK as well, and nice they are podcasting.

Have you listened to Alaska Podshow? It’s at http://www.alaskapodshow.com that I also enjoy, an authentic podcast in contrast to radio podcasts – the host also plays local and independent music.

Anyway thought I would share and enjoy your blog very much.

Smiles, Kelly

Based on this recommendation, I popped into it Juice and now I’m very glad that Kelly took the time to share the link with me. Scott, the host of Alaska Podshow has a good mix of rockin’ music and stories about Alaska. I listened to two recent shows – Get Out Now! and Deadliest Catch. Both shows had good music, but I REALLY liked Hobo Jim’s – Salty Sea. I’ve never fished on an Alaskan fishing boat myself, but based on my reading of Working on the Edge, Jim knows what he’s singing about. The State of Alaska Dept of Labor and Workforce Development should use Salty Sea as a recruitment song for the seafood jobs they help advertise.

Another thing about Scott, the host I really like is that he sounds like a “regular Alaskan” to me. He loves this state and has strong opinions about stuff. And he sounds like he’d be fun to hang out with. Just like most Alaskans I know.

While I won’t be abandoning AK Radio anytime soon, people looking for good independent music and a less filtered view of Alaska should check out Alaska Podshow. Kelly, thanks again!
