Two Alaska Library blogs worth reading and emulating

Like their “down south” counterparts, some Alaska libraries have started blogs. So far I’m aware of two, but they are both well reading even though they do very different things with their blogs:

  • Seldovia Public Library blog – Official blog of the Seldovia, Alaska public library. This blog appears to be used mostly for library news and a weekly listing of new materials. Each new book is given enough of a summary that a patron could easily determine whether the book would interest them. Items in other formats (videos, dvds, etc) have links to web sites with more information about the item. The blog accepts comments but I did not see any. This looks like a great and inexpensive way for a small library to entice citizens with new materials.
  • Juneau Public Library Book Blog – Started by the Juneau Public Library, this blog is strictly for book reviews. What makes it neat and interesting is that the reviewers are drawn from the whole community. According to their submit a review page, anyone is welcome to join the blog and submit reviews, as long as they follow the reasonable sounding posting policy. As far as I can tell, comments are not allowed, but what a way to engage your readers in building content!

  1. Daniel,

Thanks for the positive feedback on our Book Blog. We do also post film and music reviews.
